Why I listen to World Football Daily

Why I listen to World Football Daily:

I have to show some love the show that has made me the football fan that I am today. World Football Daily is a subscriber based radio show that brings the "going-ons" of global football to the American fan, five days a week. As a devoted listener since 2009, I have been tantalized by the variety of guests and players they have managed to bring on the show. A large part of the knowledge I posses on this game I can be attributed to the topics discussed on this show and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about the game. As a football addict this show is my pusher, and I don't see rehab in my future anytime soon.

An average show runs about two hours long and is filled with un-parralled content. The global perspective of the game is observed as guests such as Graham Hunter and Tim Vickery frequent the show. Players like Rafael van der Vaart give you the insight to the life of the player as well as the preparation heading into their weekend fixtures.

If you're a fan, player or casual supporter this show is for you. The video below gives you a visual look on what i'm talking about as you see the WFD family explain why everything I have just said is poppycock.

Robert Burns says "Adios," to World Football Daily

On World Football Daily the tease of a "Big Announcement," due to be released has left listeners wondering the past week, but as of today it has all been cleared up. Robert Burns aka "the King of Twitter," will be leaving the host position at WFD. When Kenny Hassan left a couple months prior it came as a shock to many listers, but since then I have adapted to the pair of Sofie and Robert in the shared host position and grown to love their styles. I feel as thought I barely got to know Robert as he announces his last show will be Monday, and though saddened by his decision to leave after such a short time at the helm, I am comforted by the fact that frequent co-host Martin Rogers from Yahoo Sports, will be taking over in Roberts stead. Martin brings a wealth of knowledge coupled with experience having written for such publications as London's Daily Mirror.

News of Roberts resignation comes as a slight shock, but the show is not being left short- handed. The partnership of Martin and Sophie is one to evoke excitement and I'm looking forward for things to come in the ever growing/changing/evolving radio show that I love.

" Great Scot!" Kenny Hassan says goodbye to WFD

It was a bittersweet start to my friday, as I awoke to the announcement that Kenny Hassan, host of World Football Daily will be leaving the show after years at the helm. I have been dazzled by his analytic breakdowns and comedic commentary ever since I found the show, integrating its elements into my own life. Being a subscriber to WFD feels like being apart of a exclusive club and the family of producers and guests they have had on the show are all near an dear to my heart.

I started listening before It was a subscriber based show, and upon learning that he platform was changing I am ashamed to say I questioned the worth, which on reviewing must have been down to shock. Low and behold I took the leap and subscribed, and haven't looked back since.  When host Steven left last year, I once again questioned how it would work without the banter between the him and the "Great Scot," but with the addition of Robert and Sophie to the show has taken the ruckus to the next level. Robert and Sophie will be taking over the creative vision of the show now that the announcement of Kenny's departure has arrived, a prospect that leaves me waiting in anticipation. This change has come a bit out of left field but I will embrace the seemingly ever-evolving show just as I always have.

I want to thanks Kenny for all the good listening and material that has helped me advance my footballing knowledge, and want to wish him the best in his further exploits.

Thanks Kenny

Spot Kick's 2011-12 EPL Predictions Are Here!!!

Let me apologize to my few followers for not keeping up with my EPL team previews for the 2011-12 season. I know it seems I abandoned ship, leaving you all with just the one full preview of....Fulham?  Life happens, actually it's more like fantasy as I spent the last couple days getting fitted for my role as an extra in an upcoming Jaoquin Pheonix movie. Now I will cut right to the chase and get to my predictions.

Christmas...superficial, Birthdays...overrated, but the start of the footballing season, sublime.
And now drumrole......

----------------- Relegated----------
18.) Wigan
19.) Swansea City
20.) Norwich

After winning  the Copa America practically on his own, the Uruguayan will destroy defenses this year.

Looks to have no confidence. Was fantastic in the Bundesliga, but will once again struggle for an impact.

Where's the allure? Reminiscent of a car without a speed-o-meter.
Total goal tally....a clinical 6. Suddenly that Lukaku signing looks something special. I am not being bitter, he's lost it. My bet is in two season's he'll be heading back to Athletico, to find himself.
Still unsure over Lescott?? the young Montenegrin might not get much time, but when he does he'll shine like a Swarovski.

Dirty Harry.

Harry Redknapp has been watching his fair share of Gun-Slinger films this summer as he's modeled his transfer policy after the trigger happy, " Shoot first, ask questions later, "philosophy. With envious amounts of depth in his attacking options, his boys seem to lack gun-powder. Harry has deemed players like Robbie Keane and Roman Pavlyuchenko dead weight at the club, and will look to offload them. Throwing Peter Crouch and Jermaine Defoe into that mix and you have four quality strikers that scored a total of 17 goals between them last season. With one or two bound to vacate White Hart Lane before the English season kicks off later this month, Harry's Spurs have been linked with everyone besides Jesus Christ himself.

Uncle Harry was chasing American-born Guiseppie Rossi with reckless abandon, but prying him away  from Villarreal proved too much of a task. A clinical goal scorer who racked up 32 goals in all competitions, has confirmed that he is staying at the Spanish outfit, a must since the recent departure of Santi Carzola to Malaga.

Another target for Harry's six-shooter is Uruguayan talisman Diego Forlan. On the back of a strong finish in the World Cup in 2010, and a Copa America Championship, Forlan has been linked to Spurs since the beginning of the summer, as he looks desperate to leave current club Athletico Madrid. He was put up for sale at the price of  7 million Euro's by Athletico,  a bargain for the still influential yet aging playmaker. If Harry really wanted him, he could get him, but an unsuccessful run with Manchester United from 2001-04,  still looms over the strikers head. The key...I think so. Proven goal scorer, influential presence, and a decent price...go git'em Arry!

Harry has even resorted to pursuing former Spurs player Dimitar Berbatov, as the Bulgarian's future is in question at United. The joint top scorer in the Epl last year, finds it near impossible to get a starting berth at United, due to the rise of Javier Hernandez. Berbatov has been accused of being a lazy player by United fans, a style that Spurs fans hold near and dear to their heart. A return would be welcomed by many, but in my opinion Berb's needs to seek new pastures, like signing for interested club PSG.

Harry's most recent pot-shot has been directed at Athletic Bilbao's monstrous striker, Fernando Llorente. The broad-shouldered Spanish International nick named "El Grandee, "has been chased by many clubs including Spanish giants Real Madrid, but has yet to be tempted away from his home town club of Bilbao. Harry will find this task a difficult one, but nevertheless will try to work some magic, as he is certainly capable of conjuring some, seen with last-minute acquisition of Rafael Vander Vaart last season. Tottenham and Bilbao meet in a friendly match this Saturday, where Harry will have ample opportunity to whisper some sweet nothings to Llorente, in an attempt to commandeer the wondrous talent.

Others rumored to be on Harry's hit list include Emmanuel Adebayor, Mirko Vucinic and Sevilla's Alvaro Negredo.

When Spurs kick off their first league match against Everton on August 13th, Harry's front line may consist of new blood, but questions remain on wether or not he can secure some deals before the window closes. Crouch had a terrible season in front of goal, but with the introduction of Vander Vaart, Crouch's primary role is to play a moving back-board for the Dutch-man. Crouch is a useful player to have for these purposes, but he's not a 20 goal a-season player.  Pavlyuchenko was signed after a good showing in the 2008 Euro's for a Russian side that punched high above their weight. Ever since he signed for Spurs he has seemingly wanted to leave, but with an influx of game time under Harry he has stuck around longer than expected.  A talented player who on the off-hand comes up with the miraculous, has yet to justify regular game time. Former captain Robbie Keane seems a definite departure,  Jermaine Defoe has been linked with a move away, but come season's start he should still be wearing the lillywhite kit.

Hopefully for Spurs fan's, Ol'Arry wrangles a new striker, who can score consistently, remains injury free, helping to  bring the forth spot to North London. If he fails to do so he will be stuck with the same Ol' cowboys...So I have to ask Spurs fans one question..."Do you feel lucky? Do ya?"

Left-Back Crack-Up

If one thing that pre-season friendlies have reaffirmed  for newly resurgent Liverpool is that they are still frail in the the back. King Kenny has hinted at this himself, but so far has done nothing to change it.  In building the Dalglish  dynasty, the Merseyside club have procured many  new faces to plug the gaps that need filling. With an overloaded midfield,  some width, and a attacking force to reckoned with, one hole remains unfilled. The vacant spot of left- back has been a perilous void, ever since the departure of John Arne Riise. With out any talent brought in to address this issue directly, the left- back spot has been a bi-polar position for the reds in recent times, full of nutters, un-tested youth and player's playing out of position. From the Benitez era to date, we have seen a whole host of different faces try to scale the void and make the spot their own, but to no avail as of now. To look at Liverpool's books , you would find that they have a few players that can, and have occupied that position. Much speculation has been a drift with Liverpool reportedly chasing Newcastle's Jose Enrique, but just of a few day's ago Newcastle have stated no formal bid has been submitted. Can Liverpool work with the player's they have or does a marquee, international-quality left-back need to enter the fray. Let us take a look at Liverpool's options and assess:

Fabio Aurelio's return to prominence?
Take Brazilian Fabio Aurelio, once regarded  as one of the best left-backs in Spain playing for Benitez's Valencia, now finds himself very much a fringe player at Anfield. Troubled by Injury Aurelio didn't feature much the last couple seasons, but when fit showed flashes of brilliance. All you have to do is look at his prowess from a set piece, best represented  in Liverpool's Champions league semi final vs. Chelsea, catching Petr Cech out at his near post. When Roy Hodgson took over the helm, Aurelio look set to leave Liverpool but resigned, yet still played infrequently.  Besides his neat work with a dead ball, Aurelio runs rather hot and cold for me, not consistent enough for week in week out selection, spotty in defense and attack, as he often likes to bomb up the wings. He has been used as a left wing-back when Dalgleish uses 3 at the back with 2 wing-backs, allowing him to impose himself offensively. Is he  Liverpool's answer to their left back predicament?..no way jose…but a good back up to have.

Emiliano Insua is another left back currently on Liverpool's roster, yet isn't seen playing in red all that often. The former Boca Junior's man in neither an unproven youngster, or a regular first teamer, having made 44 appearances for Liverpool since his signing in 2007. Last season he was loaned out to Galatasaray, but since has joined Liverpool in their pre-season tour, looking impressive and even notching a goal in their 6-3 win over a Malaysian side. Dalgleish could have bigger plans for the somewhat forgotten Argentine this season, other than loaning him out. He is a promising talent no doubt  but I often get the sense that he doesn't really want to be playing his football at Anfield, and might possibly be eyeing a move this summer. In the 2009-10 season when Liverpool came close to claiming the title, Insua enjoyed a good run of games due to then left back Andrea Dossena's poor form, and Aurelio's injury woes. To insure he gets a central role this season he has to improve in some facets of his game. He is slight in the tackle, and slight in stature standing a mere 5'10, contributing  to his ineptness in the air. He is slow to react and has slow acceleration from a standing position, though looked quick when he could run into attacking positions. Under the guidance of King Kenny maybe Insua can turn into the player he looks he can, and some of his faults should be cured with regular playing time. Another loan I feel would be detrimental to his development and possibly turn him off Liverpool all together. Is he the answer?…possibly, but could give a few Liverpool fans near heart attacks with his decision making.

Glen Johnson needs no introduction as he is a strait up starter in the Liverpool set-up. Primarily a right back, was used on the left last season to supplement the lack of options at their disposal. His performances where passable in this foreign position, to which he didn't look so happy in, a part of the  English players mentality  when asked to play out of position… but I digress. What made this acceptable was that there was back up on the right- Glen's normal position- in the frame of Martin Kelly. Young, but a tremendous prospect! Liverpool's most exciting talent  to emerge from their youth system in a while plays pretty exclusively right back and has a knack for getting forward. Kelly's rise to significance and a stretched back line justified  moving  Johnson onto the left. Kelly is one for the future, and I could see a situation occurring where Johnson plays as the right wing-back in a 3-5-2, for he is almost better going forward than back, and Kelly playing as the left sided center-back. What I can deduce from last season is that Johnson playing on the left is not the answer, so a new signing seems necessary.
Answer to Liverpool's left-back woes?

In summary Kenny will have to either trust in youth, or splash the cash and bring a top quality defender to AnfieldCarragher, and Johnson's lack of defensive clout, it is a back line that needs added steel. At one time rumored to be in for Udinese's Christian Zapata, but proceedings have since cooled and now looks like only a dying ember of hope, that the Colombian will sign with the Merseyside outfit.  Liverpool are most heavily linked with Newcastle's want away Argentinian, Jose Enrique, and if signed would do a job for the team, as a consistent performer for many years up in Tyne side. Enrique is the best and the easiest option at the moment, as I would really like to see Liverpool chasing somebody of Phillip Lahm's stature, but where the club stands at the moment renders that just unrealistic. Liverpool cannot afford to endure another season of conceding unnecessary goals due to a weak back line, it needs reinforcements, In the center and on the left. Buying a quality left -back should be Dalglish's next move in the transfer market. The old expression always rings true that successful teams build from the back, an expression that in viewing his signings this summer, is not in the Scot's vocabulary.
